Enabling Design In A Complex Environment - An Insight Into Design Operations At BT

Hear from the DesignOps team on how they've created a nimble and dynamic design organisation in a company the size and scale of BT and how the different parts of BT work together to drive change as one.

Find out how the processes they're trying to achieve can apply to a DesignOps team of one or a DesignOps team of many.

With Andonella Michalakakou, Head of Design Operations, Enterprise Digital BT and Zoe Seaman, Head of Design Operations, Consumer Digital BT

Getting DesignOps off the Ground

DesignOps is often a brand-new function - and to get sign-off on this role, the design lead(s) will usually have outlined a very clear, specific set of initiatives that they expect Design Operations to deliver. But if we want this role to be truly impactful, we need to let DesignOps throw that list out of the window and start afresh.

In this session, Saskia Liebenberg, Design Ops Lead from Monzo Bank outlines why that’s so important, and how to set yourself up for success when getting DesignOps off the ground.

Be Observant And Be Of Service: The DesignOps Guiding Principle

“Be observant and be of service” is Johnny Michaelsen’s DesignOps guiding principle, and the essence of what has enabled him to establish and grow the DesignOps teams at Skyscanner and Wise (formerly TransferWise).

In this session Johnny will share learnings from his personal journey from creative agencies to in-house DesignOps and how this simple mindset might help you achieve three things:

  • get into DesignOps,
  • establish yourself in the role, and
  • make the leap from a DesignOps team of 1 to 2 and beyond.
