How Accessible is Your Online Collection Search?

Tuesday, January 30, 12:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM GMT / 9:00 AM PST

Odds are, not very accessible to a large majority of users.

Collecting museums exist because of their collections. No surprises there, but the vast majority use the search bar as their go-to online collections discovery method. At a time when access and accessibility are at the forefront of our digital strategies, museums must up their game to better connect their audiences to their collections.

Join Nik Honeysett, Chief Executive Officer at Balboa Park Online Collaborative as he explores:

  1. What strategies, ideas, and examples are out there for so-called generous interfaces that provide more visual and more intuitive ways of collections discovery?
  2. How might we use AI, Machine Learning, or just good old-fashioned metadata to create serendipitous and meaningful interactions with online collections?

Preserving Digital Content at Museums: An interactive seminar

Thursday, February 1, 12:00 PM EST / 5:00 PM GMT / 9:00 AM PST

Preserving digital content for the long term requires performing actions that complement digital asset management activities. This pre-conference seminar aims to de-mystify digital preservation, placing digital preservation under the umbrella of the totality of digital asset management and stewardship.

Using the NDSA Levels of Digital Preservation* as a template, the interactive seminar provides a friendly platform for attendees to discuss the digital preservation actions they are already performing, what they could add in the near-term, and identify actions to advocate for the future. In the course of sharing information, attendees will learn from each other and leave the seminar with a better understanding of how to preserve the digital content at their museums.

This session will not be recorded, so attendees may speak freely.

1) Use case, staffing, and governance scenarios: When, Where and How to Employ DAM in a Museum environment
2) Technology "know how": fundamental technology features you need to know in order to be successful
3) Integration points: what are the other systems DAM needs to connect with in a museum environment?

Attend this session and gain new knowledge about best practices and proven methods of success when implementing DAM in museums.
