Giles is a partner in international law firm Gowling WLG, whose work covers transport, regeneration and infrastructure projects. He heads the firm's rail team and is a member of its market-leading real estate, public sector and regeneration teams, as well as its firm-wide tech group.

Giles has a strong personal interest in issues relating to sustainability, innovation and the future of transport and cities, and is heavily involved in thought leadership activities in these areas, chairing events, contributing to reports and helping devise programmes and content on themes concerning transport, technology and the built environment.  

He is currently involved in the co-ordination of Gowling WLG's expertise on the smart and sustainable cities agenda.

Giles is one of the country's most experienced lawyers in the area of transport-related development, having acted for many years for London Underground, Transport for London and London Bus Services, as well as on numerous matters involving interfaces with Network Rail. 

Over his years in practice he has acted for a very wide range of clients including commercial, financial and industrial businesses, public sector bodies, housing associations and other non-profit and charitable bodies, and has significant experience of PFI, PPP and other complex project structures.  

He has also dealt with a very wide variety of physical assets, including, as well as more standard office and mixed use development and management, property as diverse as affordable housing, retail malls, advanced manufacturing facilities, military bases, motorway service areas, renewable energy plants and railway stations.
