Pushing the Limits: How The Henry Ford Uses its Collections Management System as a (sort-of) DAM for Collections Multimedia

February 3, 12:55 PM EST

Over the past decade, The Henry Ford has embraced the digital world – both to share the collections online, and to use those collection assets to create other digital content such as blog posts, artifact sets, and videos.

The Henry Ford has over 100,000 records and 250,000 images online so the system in place must work hard to meet the needs of all users. In this session, we’ll hear from Ellice Engdahl, Manager of Digital Collections & Content, Brian Wilson, Senior Manager of Archives and Library, Jillian Ferraiuolo, Digital Imaging Specialist, and Jim Orr, Image Services Specialist on the ‘home-grown’ DAM - focusing on its functionality. They will examine:

  • Combining the collections’ management database with network space to store and track collections’ multimedia
  • Nightly metadata extracts and image loading to the web
  • The role this DAM plays for both objects and archival materials
  • Whether the system in place meets (or does not) specific needs for internal and online asset tracking and usage
  • The future vision and aspirations
