DAM Sydney 2025

DAM and the Digital Experience

Creating Happy End-Users - the Art of Empowering DAM for Efficient and Smooth Workflows and Use

The challenge we face:

  • The University of Sydney implemented a DAM system, but it became apparent that it wasn’t being used to its full potential.
  • Research revealed the need to:
    • Improve workflow efficiency and security.
    • Improve searchability.

What we learned as we worked to improve the system and service:

  • Analysing the management of day-to-day operations, working with end users and stakeholders, as a cohesive team supporting the entire DAM ecosystem, helped create a system which is fast becoming a ‘single source of truth.’
  • Good DAM design begins with the realisation that digital assets need to be identified, organised and made available for discovery. It’s metadata that delivers that.
  • It’s essential to put in place a metadata schema, tags, keywords and robust rights’ permissions that ensure excellent search and visibility.
  • Best practice for effective training programmes should include:
    • Continual live training sessions.
    • Detailed document and reference materials
    • Explanatory material that transforms how DAM is seen - as an invaluable tool fully appreciated by both management and users.
