DAM San Diego 2019

The Art and Practice of Managing Digital Media

Michelle Roell

Data Steward, Enterprise Metadata Services

The Walt Disney Company

Michelle Roell is a Data Steward with the Enterprise Metadata Services team at The Walt Disney Company.  Her current role includes governing, curating and explaining how to use master data across Disney’s multiple lines of business.  Prior work at Disney includes collaborating on metadata with the Data Curation Working Group for the Studio Technology Asset Management team and its clients.  She has been in the master data, metadata and asset management field for the past 6 years after a prior career as a motion graphics animator.  Having seen more unorganized shared drives and untitled jpegs than she’d care to admit, she is a true believer in the power of DAM, metadata and controlled vocabularies.  In all of her digital librarian roles, her aim has been to satisfy the business need with simple, clean taxonomy.  Michelle is a proud Longhorn having received her Master of Science in Information Studies from The University of Texas at Austin.  When not building metadata models, you can find her at the movies, volunteering at her local animal shelter or hopefully at a yoga class.
