European Football - Our Digital Asset Management Journey

In 2013 UEFA decided to do something about its sprawling landfill of digital assets.

  • Platforms were many
  • Duplicates ran wild
  • Metadata had no rules

Now - still images have been centralised. A DAM solution has become an essential part of the digital ecosystem.

Ingestions workflows, data models, and evolutions in line with technology, have made the DAM system a worthy servant of European football, delivering images of UEFA Champions League quality.

During UEFA EURO 2016 our photography and DAM workflows enabled us to use still images to bring the action from photographer to fan in just 29 seconds. The fastest timeline achieved at any major sporting event.

Join Paul, at this very exciting time in his DAM journey in European football, as he shares with you: an integration-first approach, increased automation, smart utilisation of data and AI. All primed for UEFA EURO 2020 in summer 2021.

Paul Murphy, Digital Image Expert, UEFA

And the Award goes to… DAM and the Secure Sharing of Pre-Release Films

In 2017, BAFTA began looking seriously for an alternative to the DVD send-out for entrants to the BAFTA Film Awards. How could we take it digital?

It's a DAM problem of epic proportions when you consider the security issues around sharing pre-release films worth multiple millions of dollars.

As a charity, BAFTA’s aims were to:

  • Be extremely mindful of the project budget.
  • Build a system that delivers for all entrants (from small filmmakers to large studios) a level playing field when putting their films in front of BAFTA members for judging.
  • Maintain absolute security for large studios when handling their valuable assets
  • Ensure ease of use for BAFTA members used to getting DVDs

BAFTA’s conversations with many other academies around the world has established that our solution is unique. The secret was to use APIs and create a series of interconnected DAMs.

Those of us in the creative industry play an important role in shaping the media landscape. In today’s environment where brands are being held to higher standards of social responsibility, it is now more important than ever to examine existing processes and ask, what can we do better? A few years ago, Google started looking at ways to help marketers create more inclusive work.

Join this session to learn more about how we’re tackling Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in advertising at Google, and how it can be applied to production and DAM.

Building the BLM Archive

Black Cultural Archives grew from the necessity for a space where members of the community, especially young people, could come and find positive representations of themselves in history and culture.

In this presentation, Archives Supervisor Rhoda Boateng explores the importance of authentically documenting the historic Black Lives Matter movement. Specifically, she will discuss their new digital call out, and how the donated material will be used to educate, commemorate, and drive change.
