Changing Practices: Making the digital leap to bring new audiences and benefits

28 June, 12:00PM

Creating an online window into your archive collections creates opportunities to engage, delight and surprise new audiences. Boots UK, supported by a Wellcome Research Resources Grant, has transformed its archive from an internal information resource to an international digital asset for academics, communities, students, educators and carers to explore.

Company Archives, whilst holding unique and valuable assets for their organisations, have the potential to deliver wider benefits through digital access. Boots UK has been a well-known health and beauty retailer for 170 years, and its heritage collection can be used to develop understanding on a range of social, cultural and economic themes. Its records chart the changing face of fashion, working life and the high street and are therefore relevant to communities across the country.
This presentation will chart the journey of the archives to transform their collection and will review the impact and the benefits which this has brought.
