James Whitebread joined the Royal Opera House in June 2021 as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His role is to provide strategic oversight across all the Royal Opera Houses technology systems. Seeking to lead the organisation through a significant programme of business and technology transformation.

James has over 25 years of experience in field of technology. Covering a range of industries including. Media, Sports, Pharma , Education, Public, Telecom, Consulting and Not for Profit.

Leading technology departments through transformation and optimisation. Along with product development leading to successful sale and exit. Building products and services for organisations such as Disney, Warner, FIFA, UEFA, Tata, Amazon AWS, Sky, BBC, CBS and many others.

Before joining the Royal Opera House. James was CTO of Masstech before a successful sale to the large broadcast group Telestream. As CTO at Marcopolo Learning, supporting the company’s expansion into China through delivery of new products and services. Prior to that, James was VP of Product and Technology for UI Centric, leading projects for high profile clients.
