Speaker: Nick Loughlin

Company: University of the West of England

Position: Assistant Director of Facilities – Estates

Nick trained as a Quantity Surveyor at Bristol Polytechnic, (now UWE) returning to the organisation as the Head of Estates some 25 years later. What goes around comes around! During the intervening years Nick worked in private practice, main and sub-contracting organisations before moving into project management. This lead to a period of secondment and eventually employment within Orange PCS Ltd during the days of rapid expansion and growth. Initially employed as the 3G Project Manager for the Midlands and South West he moved on to become their switch and data centre manager building facilities across the UK at breakneck speed to keep up with the growing demand. He then moved on to become the National Contract Manager responsible for all contracts associated with the building, maintenance and upgrade of base station sites across the UK. Following a brief period setting up a division within an Electricity Metering Operator to install smart meters across the UK Nick was lured back into construction as Associate Director of a large UK private practice. Once again this led to a secondment this time within the University of the West of England and as the saying goes the rest is history! Initially heading up the transport division, to drive through a major change to reduce single occupancy car journeys to the main Frenchay campus, he then moved on to his current role as head of the estates function within the wider Facilities team.
